European Union
Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament popularly known as the General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR) regulates the processing of personal data of natural persons in the European Union member states.
India
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 is an act passed by the parliament of India for processing of digital personal data for lawful purposes while recognizing the rights of individuals whose data is processed.




United States
The origin of US data privacy regulations dates back to 1996 with HIPAA, a federal law that regulates the sensitive health data of patients. California became the first state to to enact a comprehensive law to protect data privacy followed by several other states.
United Kingdom
The UK Data Protection Act, closely aligned to EU-GDPR came into force in 2018. Following Brexit, the UK has adapted the EU-GDPR principles tailored to the UK's legal system.




Brazil
Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD), is enacted in 2020 to regulate the personal data processing by both private and public sector entities.
Oman
The Royal decree no 6/2022 is the Omanese data protection act to govern the processing of personal data of citizens of Oman.




United Arab Emirates
The Federal Law No. 45 of 2021 (the UAE Data Protection Law) is passed in 2021 and became enforceable in 2023.
Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enforced its first personal data protection law in 2023 to regulate the collection, storage and transfer of personal data in the country.
